Week of February 7, 2016

WOW Menu for Wednesday February 10th: Poppy Seed Chicken, rice or pasta, green salad and dessert. Price is $4/adult, $2/kids, $12 max per family.

The blue carnation in the sanctuary this week is in honor of the newest addition to Wes and Katy Carter's family. Grant Joseph Carter was born Tuesday February 2nd and weighed 6lbs 10oz. He is welcomed too by big brother, Noah.

Ash Wednesday will be celebrated this Wednesday Feb 10th at 6:00pm in the sanctuary. Please come and invite your friends to join!

There will be a special Mission Shares Valentine Dinner on Saturday February 13th in the church fellowship hall. If you'd like to come for this special dinner please be sure to call the church office or sign up on the sheet this Wednesday. This is a great opportunity to support our Mission Shares while having a nice meal!

Saturday February 13th we will also have an opportunity for the children of the church to help deliver Valentine's goodies to our homebound members. Please have the children at the church by 10am. There will be a snack lunch at noon.

Please don't forget to send lots of prayers up for the Passion Play! It's only a few weeks away. If you'd like to participate, contact Diane Grey to find out where you can be of service.

Also, we can now receive text messages through the church's phone tree! If you're interested in this service, please contact Evelyn Cayson for more information. At this time, you will still receive a telephone call as we haven't yet streamlined this process to one messenger-but it's in the works!

Week of January 24, 2016

The office needs to update the birthday list, addresses, emails and phone numbers. If you've had changes, please call the office.

The New Generation Sunday School class is having a class party on January 30th, 2016. Contact Alicia Carter for more information.

There is a Youth Council meeting on January 31st at 4:00pm. Contact Dustin Horne for more information. 

Don't forget about the Youth Super Bowl Fundraiser. There will be a snack sale and chili sale on February 7th. The chili will be served immediately after worship and the snacks will be for sale prior to Sunday School and worship. 

YOUTH: Don't forget! If you are planning to attend Big Stuff this summer, you need to turn in your $50 deposit to Dustin by JANUARY 25th!

Week of January 17, 2016

Following the service on Sunday (1/17), there will be a Church Council Meeting. Lunch will be served. Please make plans to attend this meeting if you are on the Council.

The church office will be closed Monday Jan. 18th for MLK Day.

Emmaus will be held at the church on Tuesday Jan. 19th at 6pm in the Fellowship Hall. If you've attended Emmaus or Carrillo, you are invited to attend. 

The first session of We Are Methodist was great! Please join us again this Wednesday for WOW: Meal at 5:30 pm (Breakfast casserole, grits, biscuits)-price $4 Adults, $2 Children, $12 Family. Small Group session at 6:00 pm

Start thinking about the Super Bowl Youth Snack Sale. Sunday February 7th the youth will be hosting a snack sale fundraiser and chili lunch. If you would like to help with snacks; please contact Angie Lacey. If you'd like to help with the chili; contact Jennie Cook. The youth are such an important part of our church family and they need our support!

The Passion Play will be here before we know it! Please remember to pray for this ministry.

Week of January 10, 2016 Update

Wednesday Jan. 13: First meeting of WOW Small Group- "We Are Methodists" Led by Bro. Scott. Please join us for dinner at 5:30 (taco soup, salad, dessert) followed by small group.

Several youth will be involved with D-Now, a mission outreach project in Attala county. Please remember them in your prayers.

Mission Shares Luncheon: Sunday, January 17th following the 10:00am service. Please call the church office to make your reservation. Cost is $10 per person ($4 for children). Menu: Ziti Alforono with chicken and shrimp, green salad, Italian bread, and Lemon Delight.

There will be a Church Council meeting following the Mission Shares Luncheon on January 17th.

4th Sunday of Advent Bulletin

Caroling will be this Sunday, December 20th at 4pm. Meet in the Fellowship Hall. There will be light snacks afterwards.

Don't forget to pick up your poinsettias from the church!

Our Christmas Eve Service will be Thursday Dec. 24th at 5pm in the Sanctuary.

There will be no early service next week on December 27th.

New Sunday Service schedule begins soon! Coffee and Doughnuts at 0830. Sunday School at 0900. Worship Service at 1000. 

Wednesday night fellowship starts back on January 6th, 2016. Meal at 5:30 followed by devotion and children/youth activities and choir. The study will be "We Are Methodists" and will begin the following Wednesday on January 13th. This is a Confirmation course for ages 6th grade and up, and will serve as a refresher course for others. Please join us!

 

Updates from Bulletin: Christ the King Sunday (11/22/15)

We will be celebrating the beginning of Advent Season on Sunday, November 29th starting at 4:00pm. There will be a Sunday School door decorating contest while the children and families are encouraged to participate in an Advent Wreath making session. The cost for this activity is $10. We will have all the wreath making materials available; however, if you have some of your own, please bring them also! We will be using fresh greenery, florist foam/wreath forms, and candles.

The children will also be wrapping a small baby Jesus. This will be wrapped and placed under the Christmas Tree at home to be opened on Christmas Morning as we celebrate the true meaning of the holiday. Again, this will be provided; however, if you have one from your personal nativity set, please bring that!

At 5:00pm that day, we will celebrate the Hanging of the Greens in anticipation for Christmas. Following the service, we will have light refreshments and drinks to be enjoyed in the Fellowship Hall. We ask that each Sunday School class bring a small snack to be shared.

**Please make note** There will be no meals or Wednesday night services planned until January 6th.

Pledge Cards are due by Tuesday November 24th. Please drop them at the church office.

On December 6th the church will be selling gallon sized bags of gumbo after the church service.

The Children's Choir will present their Christmas program on December 9th. Please make plans to attend this special presentation. 

Christmas Poinsettias: Don't forget to order yours to help decorate the sanctuary by December 9th. Please have the florist use gold paper with a purple bow. Call the church office with the names of the honorees.

And finally....our new church service schedule will be kicking off in January.

We celebrate All Saints Day this Sunday November 1st by remembering all of the church members who have passed away this year: Jimmy Neaves, Billy Powell, Norma Branch, Bettie Patterson, and John Sorrells.

HOLIDAY HAPPENING! It's happening! Saturday November 7th, 2015 from 8:00am-1:00pm in the FUMC Fellowship Hall.

If you haven't had a chance to welcome Jana Alford into the church family, please make efforts to do so. She joined the church last week. Welcome Jana!

Church council will be meeting with Rev. Moore this week. Sunday Nov 1st at 4:00pm-6:00pm. Monday the 2nd at 7:00 pm. And Tuesday the 3rd at 7:00pm. 

District Mission Day for Youth, sponsored by the Starkville District Youth Committee, will take place May 3-4 at Starkville FUMC. Registration forms are in the office and the youth room. The deadline for registration is Sunday April 10, 2016.

Charge Conference is this Wednesday (October 28th) at 5:30pm in the Fellowship Hall.

Menu for Wednesday October 28th: Smoked Pork Loin, sweet potatoes, turnip greens and dessert. 

Don't forget to be preparing for the Holiday Happening. And we're selling BBQ tickets! Check with the church office for more details.

Our new phone tree is up and running! If you haven't received a phone call, we probably don't have your number! Please contact the church office.

Fall Fling at Camp Lake Stephens will be Tuesday November 10th. There are registration forms in the office. 

There will be a "Diabetes Q&A" at Williamsville Baptist Church on Tuesday November 10th at 11:00 am. For more information, contact Evelyn Cayson. 

Reminders from this week's bulletin

Sunday October 18th at 3:30 there is a Holiday Happening Planning session in the Conference Room. This is open to everyone wanting to make this event a great success. Remember to start preparing your casseroles and baked goods for the Food Pantry.

Sunday October 25th from 4-6pm is the Halloween Carnival. This is open to our whole community. Please come and bring some friends! The event will be outside near the playground. Adults and teenagers are encouraged to assist us in setting up and running booths. Please plan to be there by 1pm that day to assist.

Also on Sunday the 25th, be sure to wear PINK and bring the filled jars of coins in for the Breast Cancer Awareness picture. This will be taken immediately following the 11am service.

All Saints Day service is on November 1st. The Bell Standard is in the Narthex and has been a tradition for many years at FUMC. Bells in memory of family and friends can be attached for the presentation of the Bell Standard during the 11am service.  There will be a covered dish meal following this service. 

Breast Cancer Awareness Month

October is breast cancer awareness month, which is an annual campaign to increase awareness of the disease. While most people are aware of breast cancer, many forget to take the steps to have a plan to detect the disease in its early stages and encourage others to do the same.

Last Sunday special coin collection jars were placed in all of the classrooms. All church members are encouraged to help fill these jars and then wear pink on SUNDAY OCTOBER 25th in support. 

Holiday Happening

Taking place November 7th from 8am-1pm in the Fellowship Hall. Start making and collecting items for this event. Jewelry can be brought to the church office, and White Elephant/Country Store items can be taken to the Adult Sunday School Room (outside the sanctuary, across from the water fountain). Advertise this event to friends and family to help us make this a success!

September 17th is the deadline for information for the October newsletter. Please get your information to Trisha in the church office prior to this date.

Lunch Bunch is scheduled for Thursday Sept. 17th 10a-2p. Will bus over to Philadelphia for lunch at Peggy's, followed by shopping at Williams Brothers. Please sign up with the office or on the sign in sheets (located in the Fellowship Hall or in The Upper Room).

Acolyte training will be during Sunday School on Sept. 20th for children 3rd grade through 6th grade.

Please assist us in helping to maintain the church! We ask that when you leave a room, please turn the lights off. If you're the last one in the building, please make sure the doors are locked and the AC has been turned off. Thank you!

HOLIDAY HAPPENING! The planning session for Holiday Happening will be Sunday Sept. 20th at 3:30 in the Conference Room. Anyone interested in helping with this event is encouraged to attend. Please start saving "White Elephant" items and planning your jams, jellies and casseroles for the bake sale. We will be having the Country Store and the Jewelry Counter this year. The event will take place on Saturday November 7th!
